About my art...

From earliest school years my favourite subjects were the arts. Song, music, dance, art, literature, books and books and books. Poetry and stories. an 'opera of life'. Art for me is a transcendent freedom of the spirit allowing me to sing.

My own patchwork of education and socialisation was a mixture of fragmented Scottish primary schools, then a couple of semesters in an Austrian secondary school, after which I was promptly more or less obliged to take an apprenticeship in hair-styling aged 15. I enrolled at the Tecknische Berufs-schule, Braunschweig, (then) West Germany. My salon boss was a hard taskmaster, wig-making, colour matching and stylistic visualisation were paramount skills in my apprenticeship.

For any latent artist, finding your ideal medium is the holy grail of your creativity. That search for me included:

Sculpture

Textiles (incl. Quilting)

Painting (Oils, Acrylics, pen)

Ceramics.

More recently I have settled towards painting. Currently I work on larger scale designs, high quality paper using a blend of Japanese water pigments and fine-line Staedler/Mitsubishi ink pens.

The image of "Hares  boxing under moonlight" by Jessie Bryce, struck me as both cute, funny, serious and mysterious, all in one. Why do we fight and bash each other with words, bullets or insults?

These two combatants seem startled by the observer and 'ceasefire' is declared for a brief moment. "The struggle, is life".
